Coordinated and Efficient Huge Page Management with Ingens

چکیده
Modern computing is hungry for RAM, with today’s enormous capacities eagerly consumed by diverse workloads. Hardware address translation overheads have grown with memory capacity, motivating hardware manufacturers to provide TLBs with thousands of entries for large page sizes (called huge pages). Operating systems and hypervisors support huge pages with a hodge-podge of best-effort algorithms and spot fixes that made sense for architectures with limited huge page support, but the time has come for a more fundamental redesign. Ingens is a framework for huge page support that relies on a handful of basic primitives to provide transparent huge page support in a principled, coordinated way. By managing contiguity as a first-class resource and by tracking utilization and access frequency of memory pages, Ingens is able to eliminate a number of fairness and performance pathologies that plague current systems. Experiments with our prototype demonstrate fairness improvements, performance improvements (up to 18%), taillatency reduction (up to 41%), and reduction of memory bloat from 69% to less than 1% for important applications like Web services (e.g., the Cloudstone benchmark) and the Redis key-value store.

Reduction of Lactic Acid, Nonprotein Nitrogen, and Ash in Lactic Acid Whey by Candida ingens Culture.
A simple, efficient procedure for removing lactic acid and for reducing nonprotein nitrogen and ash in lactic acid whey has been developed. The procedure consists of culturing Candida ingens on the whey. This organism could assimilate >98% of the lactic acid and approximately 40% of the nonprotein nitrogen. Ash reduction of up to 45% resulted from precipitation of calcium apatite due to the inc...

The cloud computing infrastructure relies on virtualized servers that provide isolation across guest OS’s through sandboxing. This isolation was demonstrated to be imperfect in past work which exploited hardware level information leakages to gain access to sensitive information across co-located virtual machines (VMs). In response virtualization companies and cloud services providers have disab...

Two outbreaks of neurotoxicoses are reported in cattle browsing on the leaves of Ficus spp. In the first outbreak, three animals died and one became ill. A sheep developed severe nervous signs, including tetanic spasms, when dosed with the leaves of Ficus ingens var. ingens from the toxic camp where the cattle had died. The second outbreak resulted in the death of 12 heifers within 48 h of inge...

The rapid increase of web complexity and size makes web searched results far from satisfaction in many cases due to a huge amount of information returned by search engines. How to find intrinsic relationships among the web pages at a higher level to implement efficient web searched information management and retrieval is becoming a challenge problem. In this paper, we propose an approach to mea...
